Amazon Rumoured TO be Making its own smartphone

Bloomberg is reporting that two sources say Amazon is going to enter into the smartphone space, with the mobile device which goes head to head with the Apple’s iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and other Android powered devices.

An open source reported that Foxconn, the Chinese manufacturer used by the frim included Apple and Samsung, will work with Amazon to bulit its device. Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader is
reportedly manufactured at a Foxconn plant.

Another source said that Amazon is acquiring warchest of patent that covers wireless technology, to help it stay afloat in the fiercely litigious world of smartphones.

The world’s largest online retailer recently hired Matt Gordon, who was senior director of acquisitions at Intellectual Ventures Management LLC. According to his LinkedIn profile, Gordon is now “general manager for patent acquisitions and investments” at Amazon.

Amazon has been around for almost two decades, but the online shop has only recently turned its attention to hardware. In 2007 it released the Kindle, and in 2011 it launched an Android-powered tablet called Kindle Fire.

Amazon already has a stake in the smartphone race. Its Appstore can be found on most Android devices (in the United States), and it offers up a different free app every day.
